Okmulgee County Prayer Walk: A Decade of Unity in Prayer

The Okmulgee County Prayer Walk, now in its 10th year, is underway today, Saturday, August 2, 2025, having started at 9 a.m. at Brock Gymnasium on the campus of Okmulgee High School and continuing throughout the day. Organized by Darren from Calvary Baptist Church of Elkhorn and inspired by his sister Christy Parker—an Okmulgee High School graduate—the event brings together communities, churches, and schools across the county to pray for students, teachers, and staff as they prepare for the 2025-2026 school year.

Initiated by Christy after a transformative moment during her daily commute, the Prayer Walk has grown into a unifying event, spanning public school campuses and local colleges throughout Okmulgee County. Participants gather at Brock Gymnasium before embarking on a journey to pray on-site at various schools, fostering a sense of faith and community. Whether walking the grounds or driving around, all are welcome to join in this all-day act of prayer.

As the new school year nears, the event emphasizes safety, with Darren urging drivers to be cautious when dropping off children, who may act unpredictably. With the walk ongoing today, attendees can participate at the launch site or pray independently at nearby schools. This decade-long tradition continues to inspire hope and unity, inviting everyone to lift up Okmulgee’s educational community in prayer throughout the day.
