Standing Up for Oklahoma Families – By Rep. Chris Banning (405) 557 – 7306

Rep. Chris Banning

As the Legislature adjourned sine die Thursday, officially concluding the second session of the 60th Legislature, House members wrapped up months of work focused on delivering conservative, commonsense policies for Oklahoma families. During the final days of session, we worked long hours at the Capitol to finish legislation, finalize the state budget and send measures to the governor’s desk.

This year, lawmakers prioritized public safety, education, government accountability and strengthening opportunities for local communities across Oklahoma. We approved a fiscally responsible budget that continues investing in core services while supporting teacher pay raises, school security, literacy initiatives, mental health services and infrastructure improvements.

One measure signed into law this session was HB2979, the Talyn Bain Act, which improves safety near certain schools located along high-speed highways.

This legislation followed the tragic loss of Talyn Bain, a young Glenpool student who was killed in a crash near his school. Throughout the process, many people worked quietly and diligently behind the scenes to help move this measure forward and keep the focus where it belonged: protecting children and supporting families.

I’m grateful for everyone who contributed their time, effort and care to help get this legislation across the finish line. The Talyn Bain Act will take effect Nov. 1.

The Legislature also advanced policies aimed at improving education outcomes, supporting law enforcement and increasing accountability in government. We worked to strengthen reading and math instruction, improve school safety and support teachers and classrooms across the state.

While not every proposal made it across the finish line, I believe we made meaningful progress on issues that matter to Oklahoma families and communities.

Serving House District 24 remains an honor, and I’m thankful for everyone who reached out this session with questions, concerns and ideas. Your input helps shape the work we do at the Capitol every day.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact my office if I can ever be of assistance.
